Cadets Practice Contacting ATC, and other Radio Calls

For aerospace education, and private pilot license prep, Opa-Locka Cadets conducted radio communication training. Prior to initiating the exercises, the cadets received instruction on how to contact ATC, and how to utilize abbreviations to communicate with other aviation frequencies. These exercises emulated the procedures for towered airport departure, landing, filing a flight plan, and pre-flight procedures related to AWOS/ATIS, as prescribed by the FAA guidelines. In three exercises, the cadets performed a mock departure, contacted Air Traffic Control, filed a flight plan, and listened to ATIS for guidance on their flight.

These exercises are intended to provide entry level exposure to aviation related terminology and provide the cadets a basis for their future aviation linguistic skills.
